veiled4allah: things are looking up, inshallah

I spent much of the day at work reading. Actually, it was pertinent; I'm learning about something called NACARA, which allows certain immigrants from Central America to apply to become permanent residents of the U.S. (yes, this explanation is over-simplified). This is so that I can help my supervisor with a NACARA case she's working on.

Once I've worked on a few cases like this, I'll be moving to another project, which is putting together a notebook of projects that NWIRP would like to have law student and paralegal interns, volunteers, and fellows working on. We'll also have to develop a calendar system so the information on these projects can be sent out to law schools and paralegal programs at the beginning of their school terms when students are looking for internship sites.

We had a very fruitful discussion on this topic at the legal staff meeting today. There are also plans for a little restructuring of the staff. One of the attorneys is leaving for a new position in California at the end of the month and the legal director is looking to bring in a replacement who will not only take over those duties but some other ones as well. I'm keeping my ears open in case somebody decides they need a paralegal.

I was recognized at the staff meeting for completing the database project, as it was something that had been needed to be done for quite awhile but nobody else had the time to do it with their other duties. A couple of people sent me nice emails. Later, the interim executive director came by to thank me. After we discussed my career plans, she said that she would personally contact the executive directors of two non-profit legal services agencies that NWIRP works with to ask them if they have any paralegal positions open and to recommend me.

All in all, it was quite an exciting day for one I mostly spent reading, al-hamdulillah
