plugging Open Source Politics again

Date: September 07, 2003 | 10 Rajab 1424 Hijriah

No, veiled4allah is not going to turn into a "here's something I published somewhere else" blog. I promise! I'm just giving Open Source Politics some extra plugs to help it get off to a good start.

I've got a new post up at OSP, called Target: Immigrants, which examines counter-terrorism efforts directed at immigrants and whether these efforts have been successful.

And I really will try to get some more substantive posts up here at veiled4allah, inshallah.

I can't keep up with you, woman...write a little slower so that we laid-back Mediterranean folk can keep up with you wink

Is there a place in OSP for people like me to whine about life for Muslims in France? I feel like whining today. I've had another crude reminder that women in hijab here just don't exist. (As if I needed any more reminders.)

My daughter's school, the first Islamic elementary school in the country mach'allah, can't get public funding because they can't have "real" certified teachers. Why not? Because women in hijab can't pursue teaching certification. So if they want funding, they have to accept state-chosen teachers, none of which care to adhere to an Islamic curriculum. Man, we need schools here, more of 'em, and cheaper, and every step of the way we're faced with these incredibly medieval attitudes.

I'll give you another example: I have a niqabi friend here, who had to go to the hospital for emergency treatment....the nurse, entrance forms and pen in hand, asked her if she knew how to read or write. Come *on* now.

Grrrrr. Grrrrrrrrrr. Grrr. Please post that little smiley icon banging his head against the wall that I've seen you post before, on my behalf, and make du'a for the ummah here.

Nonexistently veiled,
Zafira
