hate radio

Date: August 13, 2003 | 14 Jumada al-Akhir 1424 Hijriah
Subjects: islamophobia
The Boston Herald reports:

WRKO-AM morning man John Osterlind aka "Ozone" was sent into the Ozone for two weeks by station suits yesterday after he called for "the eradication of the Palestinian people." 'RKO Program Director Mike Elder said Ozone went off the P. C. reservation shortly before 6 a.m. yesterday when he and his cohost, Peter Blute, were jawing over the latest round of Palestinian suicide bombings.

The duo's discussion led to what could be done to stop the suicide bombers and Ozone's response "called for 'the eradication of the whole Arab race,' " said Elder.

Blute tried to defuse the diatribe, said the program director, but Ozone opened up the phone lines to discuss "eradication"...

..."The rhetoric on talk radio has been raised so high that at some point, you have to make a stand," said Elder. "We did that to some degree with Savage, and this goes beyond that."
Update 8/26: Ozone has been fired.

I didn't realize that Ozone had been switched from his position at WAAF (the local hard rock station) to WRKO, a station I'm not particularly familiar with. Here's what I do know. Ozone is an unfunny idiot who really doesn't deserve to be on the air anywhere. I listened to AAF for a long time, but gave up on them almost a decade ago, as their choice of music grew really, really poor, and their on air talent got worse and worse.

Suspended for two weeks?

That's all? I think calls for genocide, especially in the current environment, should be treated like incitement to riot…at a minimum.

Censorship? Ya damn skippy.

Did he actually call for the annihlation of the palestinian people
or was his answer to the question more along the lines of that
the only way to eliminate the suicide bombings was to eliminate the entire race of people?
Hardly less offensive i know, but still not germain to the real issue at hand;Has anybody responding to this seen an actual transcript? Other wise we're responding to 2nd hand information, which whatever was said taints our responses.
War has a sneeky way of turning us into combatants, even as we seek peace and justice. Could someone email me a transcript if it's available?
thanks & prayers for all from alabama

Ozone did not call for the elemination of all Arabs. It was actually a caller to the station that made that comment. What Ozone did say, was that in order for the suicide bombings in Israel to stop, the "Palestinians must go". The rest is open to interpretation.

Ozone should be fired. He obviously does not understand the history of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.
