Muslim voices 8/2 to 8/9

Date: August 09, 2003 | 10 Jumada al-Akhir 1424 Hijriah
Subjects: muslim, blogs
Annie shares a wonderful story with an important reminder and lesson.

Sadia Salam is back, with a post about Cubism.

Abdullah posts about the fortunes (and misfortunes) of a satirical Syrian newspaper.

Adnan posts about a hiphop-Latin-Arabic flavored band.

Aizuddin Danian shares his thoughts about what it takes to be a good family man.

Hajir posts about the continuing poor state of women in Afghanistan, as exemplified by a women's prison in Kabul.

Nina posts the lyrics to a Muslim rap song that she likes.

Hafsa Ahsan posts up a lot of good hadiths about the importance of speaking well of others; a good Muslim is one from whose tongue others are safe (August 8; blog does not seem to have permalinks).

Jabir posts a reminder to himself (and to all of us) about having a professional state of mind when it comes to our obligations to Allah SWT.

Silent posts some excerpts from an interesting article about young Muslims and their ideas about marriage partners (the article looks at the larger issue of how young Muslims can find marriage partners while still respecting Islamic rules regarding interaction with the opposite sex).

The To Submit community posts an article looking at the recent cross-burning in front of a mosque and other hate crime incidents and suggesting that Muslims in America are now the ones starting to ask, "why do they hate us?".

Hafsa Ahsan posts to her articles blog about the requirements of hijab (August 5; blog does not seem to have permalinks).

The newest addition to my blogroll (in the "political themed blogs" section) is Afghan Voice by Arash. This blog has lots of political commentary - do check it out!

alt.muslim takes its own look at the Pew survey on attitudes towards Islam and Muslims that I blogged about awhile ago.

Muslim Wake Up posts about progressive Muslims.

Ikram Saeed posts about emigrants and exiles and "you can never go home again".

Zack Ajmal is worried because Immigration seems to have lost the information it had on his status. Hopefully this will get sorted out!

  • newspaper
The License of Al Domari (a weekly satirical Syrian newspaper) was revoked by the government this week. Al Domari was the first (if I'm not wrong) privately owned newspaper that was completely edited and published in Syria, the newspaper is......
