Subject: Re: demographics of Muslims in America
I learned that the favorite brand of car owned by American Muslims is Toyota, the favorite fast food restaurant is Subway, and the favorite dish liquid is Palmolive.Hee hee hee. I don't know about favorite dish liquid, but otherwise this pretty much describes Indian Americans too.
Anecdotally, the favored car among young Indian couples is the Toyota Camry -- the right size and price when you're just starting out and you need room for a car seat. One of my friends is convinced that the car dealers sprinkle a little curry in the cars that they have Indians test drive so it'll smell like home.
Subway is much preferred to McD's and other places because there are vegetarian sandwiches for your grandmother who's been a vegetarian since she was widowed and got very religious, and because it's much better for you.
Actually, this isn't just true for Indian Americans; the Subway chain has found success in India itself.
Subject: Re: demographics of Muslims in America
Yeah, those seemed to be the reasons that Subway was favored as a fast food restaurant by Muslims. Muslims aren't vegetarians but if you only eat halal meat, then most of the time when you eat out, it has to be vegetarian.I don't know why Palmolive was favored. I use Dawn, but that's probably because it was the cheapest, lol.
