more geekiness

Date: June 18, 2003 | 16 Rabi al-Akhir 1424 Hijriah
Subjects: web
I recently came across a site called Memigo. It provides links to news stories in topics that you might be interested in. It also keeps track of which links you follow and how you rate them in order to personalize your list over time. Sort of like how Amazon.com recommends products based on your interests and those of similar people.

Just for the heck of it, I submitted my blog's RSS feed so that Memigo can analyze the articles I link to. Lo and behold, it accepted one and sent me a trackback ping. When you follow the link Autotrackback from Memigo.com you come to a page where you can rate the article for the Memigo system or add comments about it. There's also a link to check out related articles from the Memigo database.

So I benefit Memigo by submitting links to it, and Memigo benefits me because the trackback ping leads you back to the Memigo site and allows you to access additional resources on the article without my having to do the work of finding them.

My philosophy has always been that the web is about nothing if it's not about links so I try to provide as many links as I can to resources that are related to whatever you're looking at on my blog (if you're not aware of this, you need to be visiting the individual archive pages for the entries).

You know, anyone who's scrolled down and looked at either of your margin columns would grasp pretty quickly that you like linking to things. smile

This sounds like a pretty cool idea, tho. I may have to check it out.

LOL!! Yeah, I do.

Memigo seems to be OK so far. The related entries feature for that article at least worked really well.

However, the "opinion/op-ed" category initially gives what seems to me to be an inordinate number of articles from the National Review. Hopefully it will soon realize that NRO is the opposite of my politics!
