now time for a silly question. I have seen you use the word ishallah several times, what does it mean ? From your usage, I suspect it is ismilar to "God Willing"
Oh and chrisfs, you're exactly right. It means "God willing". I have a glossary of Islamic terms on my site (there's also a link on the veiled4allah page on the left sidebar, Resources on Islam section)
also, tahniya for clinching the internship. hope u'll have a great time n learn a lot as u urself hope to be able to do.
ma'as salaama
i come from malaysia. the practice of wearing niqab is very rare n can only be seen in the very religious rural states OR the specialist islamic colleges and seminaries.
i also get the impression that people are uncomfortable around niqabees. which of course annoys me no end since some of these people are muslims too. they should be more tolerant if not encouraging.
whenever i see niqabees, i feel so 'happy'. i'd like to flash a smile to them and say an encouraging word or two but my self being male, i usually just pray for their continued piety and happiness, here and in the hereafter. insha-Allah!
Brother Malek, I didn't stop wearing hijab when I started wearing niqab so I am both muhajabah and munaqabah
I've written extensively on sister Sultana. There are some posts here and you can search for them, or read the whole thing at my other site The Niqabi Paralegal, inshallah.
I think that the strongest position according to the Shari'a is that a woman can unveil if her identity needs to be verified (I can provide sources for this position). Therefore, I think that Sultana Freeman's position is not the strongest under Islamic law.
However, it is allowed in the U.S. for people to get a religious exemption and get a non-photo driver's license and I think Freeman should be allowed to do this.
i'm an engineer by training but i actually like Law better so your niqabi paralegal thingy is truly a godsend. it combines two of my great passions: Islam and Law. (hmmm.. should i call Islam a passion?)
and yes, my question was wrongly worded: one is either a muhajabah or a munaqabah + muhajabah. obviously some people do think that the niqab is part of the hijab.
wassalaam
About the screen names. When I first started my site in September 2001 I was a hijabi. I'd been using the name Al-Muhajabah at discussion boards and the like for even longer than that.
In January 2002 I started wearing niqab. I didn't want to change the name of my site so I left it as Al-Muhajabah but I started using Al-Munaqabah as a screen name to reflect my new level of veiling.
I don't know why I use Al-Munaqabah in the comments here. I'm too lazy to change it, I guess. I know it's silly (a couple of visitors really made fun of me for it once) but oh well.
Based on my studies, I think that the stronger opinion is that niqab is not a required part of hijab. However, I wear it as part of my own hijab because I think it's mustahabb and sunna and I hope to draw nearer to Allah SWT by it. I enjoy wearing it; I like my privacy.
CONGRATULATIONS!!!! Keep KICKIN it for all of us sister!!
You rock!!!!!!
