Muslim voices 11

Date: April 26, 2003 | 23 Safar 1424 Hijriah
Subjects: muslim, blogs
This installment concludes my run through The Muslim Blogs list. There are many more blogs than those I've chosen to highlight and I encourage you to check them out.

Here are five more Islamic blogs.

First is Maliha's Daily Musings by sister Maliha Balala. She posts a lot of Sufi poetry and inspirational verses from the Quran and other writings. She also has an interesting post called The Illusions of Freedom (April 18; permalinks are bloggered). She looks at the number of Americans who are in debt, at the injustice that is still faced today by racial minorities, at the number of people enslaved to their want for alcohol, drugs, or nicotine, at the recent restrictions on civil liberties, and at what she calls the freedom to be morally decadent, among other things, to ask what kind of freedoms we do and don't have. She promises to look at the flip side, the good freedoms in America, in a future post.

Second is Mohammad, the Prophet of Allah by Silent Spring. This blog features some basic information about the Prophet (pbuh) and his place in Islam.

Third, we have Moral Virtues by Nazila Goudarzi. This blog features a wide range of materials including beautiful pictures, Quran verses, poetry, and general inspirational quotes.

Fourth is The Holy Quran, also by Silent Spring, who also has blogs about the poet Kahlil Gibran, Islam in general, and the place of Ali ibn Abu Talib (may Allah be pleased with him) in Shi'a Islam, plus a personal blog. The Holy Quran blog is an attempt to post up the English translation of the Quran by Mohammed Marmaduke Pickthall on the web. So far, the first nine surahs have been posted.

Finally, we have Thoughts and Readings by Sufistic. Thoughts and Readings contains a wealth of materials on Islamic mysticism including a series of posts about the meaning of love and love for God. The most recent post (April 26) is a collection of anecdotes about the early female mystic Rabi'a al-Adawiyya.
