now that's a big book!

Date: March 31, 2003 | 27 Muharram 1424 Hijriah
Subjects: quran, art
Below is an image of one of the earliest surviving manuscripts of the Quran. Click on the thumbnail to view a full-size image in a pop-up window.

You can read about the restoration of this manuscript. One of the intriguing parts of the story is that the restoration is being overseen by a woman, Dr. Souad Maher, who was the first woman to receive a doctorate in Islamic Studies in the Arab world. She has also served as the dean of the archaeology department of Cairo University and 45 years ago undertook the previous restoration of this same manuscript.

Cool - Indeed ... Imagine having to move around with that.

Alhamdulillah, we've got it so easy for us now but we still fail to appreciate what we have.
