As Jack Balkin says, the die is cast. It looks like we've reached the point of no return with Iraq. The 48-hour ultimatum runs out Wednesday night (at which time I'll be taking a Civil Procedures final deathstare )

I fear so much that disaster will result, if not immediately then over the coming years. I fear that our actions will leave Iraq worse than we found it. I fear that our dreams of a democratic and free Iraq will turn to ashes. I fear that many people, both American and British soldiers and Iraqi civilians, will lose their lives for no purpose. Please, dear God, let my fears be wrong.
