early nominations

Date: March 13, 2003 | 9 Muharram 1424 Hijriah
Subjects: blogs, links
In late December, Dwight Meredith had the Koufax Awards to recognize the best in lefty blogging. If the awards are annual, we've got a long wait until the next set, but I just wanted to make some early nominations.

Best Post - Jonathan Edelstein's Torture, drugs and terror: a history, a comparison and a declaration

Best Series - David Neiwert's Rush, Newspeak, and Fascism (currently up to part eleven)

Other categories to think about include Best Pro Blogger, Best Blog, Best Writing, Best Single-Issue Blog, Most Humorous Blog, Most Humorous Post, Best Commentor, Best New Blog, Best Special Effects, and Best Design.

They're for politically leftist bloggers and are named after a left-handed baseball player.

I was trying to make a pun deathstare

Funny how I never considered myself a "lefty" before I started blogging.

Odd as it may seem for someone who comes across as left-wing as I know I sometimes do, I understand exactly what you mean. Zack and I have been having an interesting discussion in his comments section (regarding the political stereotype quiz) about where our beliefs fall in the political spectrum. On some issues (e.g., Palestine) I'm way out there in left field. On other issues, I'm fairly conservative (e.g., abortion). I've always tended to be somewhat libertarian on economics and government issues (got that one from my parents).

I've definitely become more liberal (or more radical, depending on how you look at it) in the last year and a half. Another way of looking at it is that liberals are the group that I find most comfortable for my views on issues that are currently important like the war and civil liberties.

BTW, you can try submitting that post to a "best of right-wing blogging" if you want wink
