family matters

Date: February 27, 2003 | 25 Dhu-l-Hijjah 1423 Hijriah
Subjects: personal, family
My mom is leaving for Minnesota tomorrow to visit her family. My grandmother lives with my mom's older sister since at 95 she needs someone to kind of watch out for her and help her with things. My aunt's youngest son and his family have also moved in because the son is out of work. I'm sure it must be extremely stressful taking care of a parent and dealing with an adult child all the same household and my aunt is suffering from depression. So my mom is off to visit, help take the load off her for awhile, and they can have a family discussion with the other sister about whether this arrangement is really best for my aunt and for my grandma. It's been good for my grandma to be living with family so I hope they'll be able to work something out so she doesn't have to go to a nursing home

I remember my aunt wrote me a letter awhile after 9/11 and asked me to tell her more about Islam. She's a devout Catholic. We were able to find a common ground in talking about putting trust in God, which was cool. I respect my aunt a lot for being willing to listen and learn with an open mind.

Asalaam Alaikum. May Allah make it easier for your family. I know how hard it is. My grandmother passed away. She lived with us and it was very tough. But InshaAllh everything will work out. I think it's great that ur family's interested in Islam and not shunning you out like some other families do.

As Salaamu Alaikum Sis ...

Wow, your gran is 95 - May Allah grant her hidaayah and make it easy for her & your family ... I wish I had a Gran, my granny from my dad's side passed away when I was about 9/10 and I've never seen any of my grandparents from my mum's side.
