Iraq's nuclear weapons program - what is the truth?

Date: February 06, 2003 | 3 Dhu-l-Hijjah 1423 Hijriah
Subjects: war, iraq
Imad Khadduri is an Iraqi nuclear scientist who worked with the Iraqi Atomic Energy Commission from 1968 to 1998, after which he defected to Canada. Khadduri talks about Saddam Hussein's efforts to develop nuclear weapons (interestingly, he claims that the program began in earnest only after Israel's bombing of the Osirak nuclear power plant, as is claimed by some of the authors I linked to here).

Khadduri also says that the Iraqi nuclear program never recovered from the 1991 war and that it's "ridiculous" to claim that Iraq poses a nuclear threat today. Here is his response to critics.

Hesiod of Counterspin Central does some fact-checking and argues that Khadduri's claims should be taken seriously and investigated.
