when doing tech support just ain't fun

Date: December 17, 2002 | 12 Shawwal 1423 Hijriah
Subjects: employment
Crazy day yesterday. As I mentioned, I went in to do some work for my previous employer. They were having problems with their email and with connecting to one of their ISPs. We got the email problem resolved by calling the ISP, although they never gave a convincing explanation why the passwords all needed to be reset.

Then I was trying to set up another computer in the office to dial in to the ISP. They had been donated a Macintosh from another company. As companies usually do before donating a computer, the hard drive had been wiped and we were given the disks to re-install the system software. But somehow the hard drive on the computer had become corrupted and could not be read much less formatted. So I told my co-workers to take the thing to be recycled.

Then I tried to set up yet another computer in the office to dial in, but there seems to be something wrong with the modem because no matter where we hooked it up we got a busy signal on the line even though the line was not busy. Eventually we gave up on that and I set up a work-around instead so that their email will be forwarded and they don't have to dial in to that ISP for awhile. They're looking at getting a brand new computer in order to avoid all these problems in the future.

It was good to talk to my old co-workers again, but otherwise the day was pretty frustrating!
