whatever happened to decent customer service?

Date: November 22, 2002 | 17 Ramadan 1423 Hijriah
Subjects: consumer
I've been doing some contract work for my previous employer. They've been having trouble dialing in to one of their ISPs and the ISP is giving them the run-around. I was able to connect another way and retrieve the email they wanted to check, then I was going to test if I could dial-in from my own location. That's when the ISP started giving me the run-around too. In order to get an access number that I could dial in with I had to spend nearly a week exchanging email with tech support, give them our account number, have a work order generated for a technician, explain to them on the phone why I wanted it, and finally the employer had to give authorization by phone directly to the ISP. Never mind that I had worked there for over a year and dealt several times with the ISP before. Don't use this ISP.

I have more trouble with ISPs and Phone companies than with anyone else! They suck big time!
I've been meaning to ask you who do you use for your web host and if you got your domain name yourself? I am thinking of getting a domain name and trying to find the perfect host but I've not come across anything that I like that's nice and cheap. I've also thought about buying my own server and running my own web server from home but since my ISP (sympatico.ca) sucks, I haven't really done anything about that either!

I got my domain name through NameCheap. It cost just under $9 a year and I was able to pay with PayPal instead of using a credit card.

My webhost is DreamHost. They're pretty good. I pay $9.95 a month under their cheapest plan. The thing I like best is that they always keep me informed of any downtime or problems that they're having. Their customer service is great. They're also willing to admit when something was their own fault.
