thoughts on my homework

Date: October 01, 2002 | 24 Rajab 1423 Hijriah
Subjects: school, paralegal
In my Contracts class, we've been looking at some actual court cases where people sued for breach of contract. It's an interesting variety of cases. In one of them, this poor guy was treated as an employee and asked to do all these things for a company, then when he was injured on the job and filed for worker's comp, the company claimed he wasn't really an employee. I guess they figured he would be free labor for them. On the other hand, some of the lawsuits are really frivolous so it's the person bringing the lawsuit that's out for all he can get. When you go into law you see a lot of the worst behavior that people are capable of.

I am an insurance broker and insurance, of course, is all contracts, all the time, and you absolutely do see things at their very worst. The really sad thing is when it starts to warp your outlook and you see everything in terms of potential losses (or lawsuits, for a lawyer or paralegal).

BTW, a friend of mine took a paralegal course after she finished college and she parlayed that into a very good job as a risk manager for a certain oversized software manufacturer.

Thanks for your feedback, Carol. There certainly are more fields than just the obvious one of law that a person with paralegal training can go into.
