good things that lawyers can do

Date: September 25, 2002 | 18 Rajab 1423 Hijriah
Subjects: school, paralegal
In my civil litigation class, our term project will be to write up an analysis of a case. I'm thinking of doing a civil rights case, perhaps one involving Muslims.

Today in class we learned how to do legal research in the library and I got a chance to look at an online legal database. With a little work I was able to find some well-known cases like John Walker Lindh and Yaser Hamdi. I probably won't do a case that large and complicated for my paper but the idea came to me to find a case in which a Muslim was suing for his civil rights, inshallah.

Sometimes we think of lawyers as the "bad guys" but lawyers are also the ones that you go to when you want to stand up against injustice.

Yeah, it's true that not all lawyers are bad. If I were in a legal dispute, I would have to get a lawyer.

The lawyers that are evil though, are the ones that defend criminals. I don't see any good in that.

Yeah, it's hard to understand how a lawyer can defend someone they know is guilty but who is trying to claim innocence.

It's also difficult to know: is the person really guilty or have they been wrongly accused?

that’s good ..... first lecture in the university(I studied law and business management) we learned where to find the laws and not to learn them by heart (laws can be changed )

….”Sometimes we think of lawyers as the "bad guys” ……. the good guys are working for my case the bad ones for the other side (just a joke but most of the people feel that)

There are different types of law, such as criminal law, civil law, family law etc. Some lawyers may specialize in one type of law, while others might handle cases in several fields of law. It depends on their training, their interests, and the needs of the law firm that they belong to.

We can't say that "defense attorneys are bad" because the defense attorney may be defending a criminal OR he may be helping you when you've been wrongfully accused of a crime. A lawyer has to decide which cases he can take and which would be wrong for him to take. That's what determines what's good and bad.
