adventures on campus

Date: September 19, 2002 | 12 Rajab 1423 Hijriah
Subjects: school
I went to the new student orientation today. It went pretty good. Before it started, I was sitting by myself when a lady (an older student) came over and asked me to sit at her table. And there I was wearing niqab! It turns out that she is also in the paralegal program. She seems really nice smile

I took an extended campus tour and learned about some of the extracurricular activities available. It turns out that there is a Muslim Student Association although I only saw one other Muslim girl around while I was on campus, and none among the new students.

After the orientation I went to the student services center. I wanted to get a student ID card. They told me I had to get a receipt showing that all my tuition and fees were paid. So I stood in line at the cashier for over 40 minutes. Finally I got my receipt and went back to the registrar. Then they told me that it didn't appear my scholarship money covered the cost of the ID card. I had to go over to the Worker Retraining office and they decided that it didn't. So then I went back to the cashier to pay the fee. Fortunately I was able to "cut in" instead of standing in line for another 40 minutes. Finally after that I got my ID card.

Then after this ordeal, I went to purchase my books. It cost $335. eek eek eek The books I purchased include: The Legal Writing Handbook (954 pages), The Bluebook: A Uniform System of Citation, a handbook of court rules for state courts (639 pages), a handbook of court rules for local courts (1412 pages), Civil Litigation, Basic Contract Law for Paralegals, and How to Land Your First Paralegal Job. I hope I don't have to lug all of this to class every day!
