keeping our priorities straight

Date: September 15, 2002 | 8 Rajab 1423 Hijriah
Subjects: commentary
I was just reading an article in Discover magazine about archaeology in Iraq and how archaeologists fear that artifacts of past ages could be destroyed in a war. What good do these artifacts do the innocent people in Iraq who are dying of starvation? This reminds me of the fuss over the Buddha statues in Afghanistan. People seem to care so much about things and not about human beings. What does it matter about some statue or historical treasure when people are dying for lack of food? How much money is being spent on these projects that could be spent feeding malnourished children instead?

So true ... I think that the World is going crazy ... there was an accident some time last year and a relative of mine stopped to help, since it happenned just a few mins before he passed that way. The guy was with his wife and child and the thing that he was more concerned about, was the damage done to his car. He didn't even bother to enquire about his wife and kid .... talk about having a love for worldy things.

Damn, people can be weird. They value objects more than human life. How can someone not care about the well-being of others? It's just a natural human instinct, isn't it? Well maybe not for cold-hearted people.
