looking back

Date: September 14, 2002 | 7 Rajab 1423 Hijriah
Subjects: thoughts
So much has changed in the last year. Things have happened in this country that I thought could never happen. Maybe I was naive; I don't know. All I know is that I feel that America is headed in the wrong direction and is going more wrong all the time. I feel so alienated from the prevailing mood. I have ever since the WTC attacks last year. At first it was just that my thoughts and fears were different from those of so many people around me, but now I see America veering disastrously off course while people cheer and wave their flags. I wonder what will happen next.

Allah knows. I'm just sitting here waiting to see what happens as each day passes. Of course, I worry.

Salaam,

Sometimes I also become very frustrated with all the things that are happening to Muslims around the world.

Things will change .... I hope .... I believe

u know sister, sometimes americans comes to singapore and they take our trains.. and i think they get really frightened cos girls in hijab is common here.. but they get really rude.. they point and whisper about us, like we are not there.. there was one time, this lady did not let her daughter sit next to me on the train...

compared to most other coutries, americans is very very narrow minded about islam..

makes me wonder how u move about in your niqab there everydae..
is it really hard??

and muslims in singapore reached a state where we really dun like american peeps hovering aroundd....

but U though are most welcome to come here and have coffee with me though! smile

Most of the time, it isn't too bad here, al-hamdulillah. I've faced a few difficult situations and a fair number of rude stares, but nobody has ever tried to hurt me or anything.

There's so much ignorance in America about Islam and Muslims. But worst of all there is so much propaganda against Islam and Muslims. It's no wonder that ordinary people are afraid of it, when that's all they read.

May Allah SWT help us all.

That's not such a nice thing, sis No brainer. Alhamdulillah I haven't had any of that here in South Africa. In fact nobody ever confronted me directly after 11th of September 01.

They do tend to stare sometimes ... like when I just got married on the 23 Sep last year ... the next day, my husband and I went out somewhere and there were all these peeps that literally stopped what they were doing and following us with their eyes. It was kind of funny because my husband wears a kurta and turban.
