anniversary of 9/11

Date: September 11, 2002 | 4 Rajab 1423 Hijriah
Subjects: wtc
Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji'un. Surely we belong to Allah, and surely we return to Him. Today, I pray for all the innocents who have died, not only the Americans who perished in the WTC attacks, but also for the Afghan civilians killed in the "war on terrorism" and for the Palestinian, Chechen, Gujurati and other civilians around the world who have died because oppressive goverments use this same "war on terrorism" as an excuse. American lives are not somehow more valuable that the lives of people in other countries. To the contrary, God has given all human beings equal dignity and honor. To take the life of any human being without just cause is in His eyes like killing all of humanity (Quran Surah al-Ma'ida ayah 32).

Salam sis - I read it and I think it's very true! The way some people in America act, you would think it was the worst tragedy that had ever befallen anyone anywhere. Sometimes Americans are so incredibly spoiled.

Thank you for posting this, especially the article, "'Evil Islam' and the Christian Right". I work for the housing department at my university, and today we were talking about religious diversity. While I read the article too late to bring it up with my coworkers, it really resonated with me for the reason that we are trying hard to help more people understand that the terrorist attacks on the United States were not an attack by normal Muslims, but by extremists whose views should not be taken as those of the whole body of believers. What many people seem to miss is that Islam is a faith of peace and love, and only the worst extremists have been driven to hate and violence (and they are no worse than extremists of any other faith). It saddens me that even the American government has taken such an ignorant stance, which puts all American Muslims in danger on a daily basis.
