why do people hurt each other so much?

Date: August 19, 2002 | 10 Jumada al-Akhir 1423 Hijriah
Subjects: thoughts
Some people seem to get a kick out of hurting others or making them feel bad. Is it that they feel bad themselves and want everybody else to be as miserable as them? Or is it that they need to make others feel bad in order to make themselves feel good?

Sometimes we think it does feel good, we got our revenge and all that. But it only feels good for a short while, and it leaves a bad aftertaste. And sometimes in order to avoid the bad aftertaste, we have to go even further to try and justify it.

It's a losing game.

Some people are “hasid”, some people are “jahil” and some people are evil their hearts became hardened, and Satan made their (sinful) acts seem alluring to them.

YUSUFALI: When the suffering reached them from us, why then did they not learn humility? On the contrary their hearts became hardened, and Satan made their (sinful) acts seem alluring to them.

And ALLAH knows best

Everyone is always hurting everyone else. It's really annoying and sad and it just makes this world so hard to live in. Especially when Muslims constantly hurt each other, you lose that sense of brotherhood/sisterhood.
