funding options for school

Date: August 12, 2002 | 3 Jumada al-Akhir 1423 Hijriah
Subjects: school, unemployment
Today I went to a workshop at the community college to learn about various types of funding for students who are on unemployment benefits. There are two "streams of funding" as they called it. One is simply the continuation of unemployment benefits while attending school. If the Employment Security department agrees that the coursework will make me more employable and thus help me get back into the job market sooner than otherwise, I can get my benefits continued while going to school.

There is also the second "stream of funding" which is actual money towards tuition, fees, and books. I might be able to get the tuition for at least the fall quarter paid by the community college itself, if I don't find any other source of funding. There is also a possibility of getting money from the Employment Security department to cover the expenses, if they decide that I'm a "dislocated worker".

Inshallah, I'll be attending another workshop on Wednesday to learn more about the "dislocated worker" program, and I have a meeting on Friday with the worker retraining counselor at the college so I can discuss my specific situation with him and exactly how to apply for the money from the college.

My family and I are ready to pay for the paralegal program ourselves, but it would be nice to have some financial help with it as long as I'm not working.
