ode to SV

Date: May 25, 2002 | 13 Rabi al-Awwal 1423 Hijriah
Subjects: sv
No, this isn't a poem or anything. Just some positive things to say about the Soundvision.com Forums, a.k.a. SV. SV is really a wonderful community. Sure we have our share of problems there and we seem to go through a lot of fits of introspection over the problems, but this is typical of the umma as a whole. As I have said elsewhere, if there is disunity and infighting on SV it is because there is disunity and infighting in the umma, and if there is fitna on SV it is because there is fitna in the umma. SV is simply a microcosm and reflects what is going on in the larger community. Anywhere else you went among Muslims, online or in real life, would be the same.

The problems don't take away from all the good things about SV. Truly, this is one of the best online communities I have ever found. There is such a true feeling of brotherhood/sisterhood there. I really feel that I have made genuine friends there and that there are people there whom I care about and who care about me, and we look out for each other. I have not experienced this at any other online community.

Last night a few of us pulled an all-nighter. It was pretty wild but (mostly) clean fun. Read it here. Hee hee.

A du'a for SV: O Allah, please forgive our sins and reward our good deeds. And guide us to post what is pleasing to You and to abandon what is displeasing to You. Make these forums a source of blessing and goodness for us, and protect us from the cause of any harm. Help us all as we struggle to keep to Your path and to be strong in iman. Help us to spread knowledge of Your deen. And accept our efforts. Ameen.

Ed. note: for anyone coming across this entry, the SV forums were taken down in autumn 2003 and seem to be permanently dead. Sad
