'Gamma Girls'

Date: June 22, 2002 | 11 Rabi al-Akhir 1423 Hijriah
Subjects: culture
That's the focus of a story in the June 3 Newsweek. The article classes teenage girls as "alphas" (the popular girls), "betas" (the "bad" girls), and gammas (the "normal" girls). Based on the descriptions given, I certainly wasn't in any of those groups in high school. I wonder how the "weird" girls and the nerds and other misfits are classified? Omega girls? The description of the "gamma girls" does remind me a lot of my younger sister, but it certainly wasn't and isn't me!

The other thing that struck me while reading the article is that they have some pictures that are supposed to illustrate the different types of girls and their styles and tastes. Well, if you ask me, all the girls shown dress pretty trashy and their "style and taste" profiles all look the same as well. Thank God I'm not a teenager any longer. Not that I fit in when I was one.
