more adventures in comparison shopping

If I do decide to switch to a paid webhost (see below) then I'll probably spring for a domain name as well. My desired domain name is available, al-hamdulillah. I could register a domain name through the webhost but if for some reason things go wrong and I have to leave, I don't want to be stuck still paying them for the domain name. Most webhosts will pay the registration fees for you as long as you're hosting your site with them, but if you cancel your hosting account you have to start paying the fees yourself - and most of them charge a lot more than companies that are only in the domain registration business. So that's why I'd prefer to keep the two separate.

Since I don't use credit cards, I have to look for a domain registrar that accepts PayPal. There are some out there, but researching them proved to be like researching webhosts. Several of the registrars that I found are actually just fronts for domain registration service offered by a webhosting company, so why not just sign up from there first? One of them sics you with a $10 handling fee so suddenly their prices aren't so cheap after all. Another makes you go through a complicated procedure to use PayPal when I've seen from other websites that it could be a lot more straightforward than that. Caveat emptor (buyer beware)
