I am liking this

Date: July 24, 2002 | 14 Jumada al-Awwal 1423 Hijriah
Subjects: school, paralegal
Yesterday evening, I went to the paralegal program orientation. It was really good, al-hamdulillah. The program is probably the best in the state and it is one of only four programs in the state that are approved by the American Bar Association. They have some unique features the other programs don't, like a required internship and the Community Justice Project, which is volunteer work with people who can't afford to pay for legal services. This is good not only on a personal level, but also for professional development. The more experience I have in my new field and the more references from people who have worked with me, the more likely I am to get hired when I complete the program (this is especially important if I am going to try and get a job as a niqabi).

Another big plus is that the students in the program come from a diversity of backgrounds. I was the only Muslim there, which is no surprise (I'm usually the only Muslim in most places I'm at - but I did see a hijabi in the distance on campus while I was there) but they do have students from a diversity of educational and ethnic backgrounds. They are used to dealing with people who have unusual circumstances or backgrounds and are very willing to accommodate the students' needs.

P.S. The faculty advisor I'll be meeting with next week was also there. I didn't have a chance to talk personally to him because he had to leave after a few minutes to teach a class. But at least he saw the niqabi there so he won't be quite as surprised at the meeting next week to see me dressed like that wink
