Surah al-Fajr ayah 10

Date: October 13, 2002 | 6 Shaban 1423 Hijriah
Arabic text of ayah

Wa Fira'awna dhi al-awtad

And Pharaoh who had the stakes

The following is an excerpt of commentary on this ayah, from Tafsir Ibn Kathir:

After these two peoples, Allah mentions Pharaoh, describing him as the one with stakes or pegs. The word awtad means pegs and it is said that Pharaoh, in his anger, used to impale pegs in the hands and feet of people to kill them... A hadith says that he laid down his wife, who had embraced Islam, impaled pegs in her body and threw a millstone on her back, killing her. May Allah have mercy on her
