Muslim Homes for Afghan Orphans

Dear brothers and sisters:

Asslamu-Alikum Wa Rahmatullahi Wa Baraktuh

The intention of this letter is to ask for your help and support in finding Muslim homes for orphaned Afghan Children who are being brought to the United States.

On 3/16/02 a meeting was held in Van Nuys, CA to educate families on how to become Foster Parents or adopt a child. At that meeting, it was brought to our attention that 529 Afghan women and children are going to be brought to the United States of which, some are mothers and daughters, 217 of them are orphans, and 45 of these children who are girls ages 6 to 14 years old have already arrived Southern California almost two months ago.

It is the intention of “Niswa” (An Islamic Family Outreach Organization) to assist in placing these Orphans with Afghan and Muslim families.

To be able to participate in either Foster Parenting or Adoption government programs, we need an immediate response from you to be willing to go through the process of obtaining certification for Foster Parenting. Please note that without having the proper certification documents, one will not be able to care for these children as Foster Parents.

For information on how to become Foster Parents, Los Angles County Residence, please call (888) 811-1121, other counties, please contact your local county Department of Children and Family Services or your local Family Foster Care and Adoption agencies listed on your local Smart Yellow Pages Telephone Directory.

Please contact your Afghan Niswa Committee after you have been certified by your agency or county at the following telephone and fax numbers between the hours of 3 to 8 PM Los Angeles time.

A. Mohammad Daoud Abedi (818) 874-9373, Fax (818) 874-9374

B. Gabriel and Zohra Veach (909) 779-0084

Please note that general policy of the local government is “first come first served” and there is no guarantee that the children will be available as time passes by.
