Clark on Iraq and Zarqawi
Video (Windows Media, QuickTime), Audio (transcript) - Clark discusses whether the apparent killing of Zarqawi will help, which he doesn't expect, since there is a network, not just one man. He also talks about the December vote upcoming and the political steps that need to be taken. Clark says that most people in the military won't be too concerned about political debate over the war or take it as a "lack of support". He mentions that he doesn't agree with Murtha's "as soon as possible" withdrawal plan, and mentions his own regional diplomacy plan yet again. He points out that most Democrats would like to see an event-driven plan rather than a fixed timetable. In the Balkans, there were benchmarks, but not in Iraq. They then get back to the question of criticism. Clark says that questions over pre-war intelligence are not a "shame" as the host claims but an essential part of democracy. This gets into a debate and the host keeps interrupting when Clark tries to make his points about the hyping of intelligence.
