Clark on the O'Reilly Factor

Video (transcript) - Clark appeared on the O'Reilly Factor to discuss Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, Iraq, and Cindy Sheehan. O'Reilly opens with a criticism against Louisiana governor Kathleen Blanco for not using the National Guard. Clark says that local authorities like police should respond first, and points out that the key National Guard units were in Iraq. He talks about treating this as a national security issue, coordination of local, state, and federal authorities and train together.

O'Reilly then brings up Cindy Sheehan and shows a video of Clark with Cindy Sheehan and Charlie Rangel. O'Reilly attacks Cindy Sheehan and Clark for meeting with her. Clark rebuts the claim that Cindy is a radical by saying that she is a mother who has lost her son and is in pain. He says he would be honored to meet any parent who lost their child in war, and gets in a comment about people who wear flag pins on their lapel but aren't willing to send their children.

Clark also manages to briefly discuss his ideas for Iraq, including the importance of diplomacy (Iraq cannot be won by military means alone), leading O'Reilly to say that he can come on the next week to discuss it.

Clark Quote

Don't we owe it to ourselves to be all that we can be as a people of faith? To reach out and offer hope and opportunity to the least among us? To preach peace and prosperity and to live equality and justice? (source)
