CONCORD, N.H. -- Retired Army Gen. Wesley Clark is speaking out for the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, which the Pentagon has recommended closing.

In an interview with The Associated Press Thursday morning, Clark said the shipyard is a "unique facility."

The former NATO commander and one-time presidential candidate has said the Pentagon's plan to close military bases around the country will isolate the military from the American people and the rest of the world.

Clark is scheduled to be in New Hampshire for a Democratic fundraiser.

Clark Quote

Don't we owe it to ourselves to be all that we can be as a people of faith? To reach out and offer hope and opportunity to the least among us? To preach peace and prosperity and to live equality and justice? (source)
